We depart Joburg / Pretoria @ 8 am. After an hour drive we stop for a short break @ Hartebeespoort dam for a short break and quick glance @ craft market. These craftsmen are ready to offer their crafts @ wholesale prices. Shortly after we arrive @ Pilanesberg Game reserve and is ready to embark on our first taste of an African Safari. We spend most of the day searching for the animals, stopping at waterholes and bird hides along the way. Abundant bird life makes this park a paradise for birding enthusiast. Lunch is enjoyed @ lodge inside the reserve (included) We return late afternoon back to Joburg or Pretoria to arrive @ approx 20:00
Pilanesberg National Park is set in eroded remains of a 1, 2 billion year old volcanic crater. The Park, which covers some 55 000 hectare, is the fourth largest game reserve in Southern Africa and is situated about 180km northwest of Pretoria. This malaria free park plays host to 360 bird species, the nocturnal brown hyena, cheetah, hippo, crocodile and the much sought after “Big 5”
